UKTV launches first Desktop TV Schedule Service
UKTV, the satellite and cable television company, has become the first to promote programme schedules using a groundbreaking desktop microsite technology.
23 February 2004
The application, developed by Skinkers Communications, automatically updates programme information and presents personalised daily reminders using a desktop microsite that users can browse even when offline.
The second largest multi-channel broadcaster in the UK, a joint venture between BBC Worldwide and Flextech, has commissioned a bespoke desktop agent which will be downloadable from their UKTV website. The agent will provide an innovative medium via which website quality, rich media and added value information on programmes will be pushed directly to users desktops on a daily basis.
Users are able to choose which programmes they wish to be alerted on via a multi channel option system available on the agent. As well as updates on their favourite shows they will receive relevant content which may include anything from soap quizzes, videos, gardening tips to DIY hints.
Matteo Berlucchi, CEO of Skinkers, commented "Internet users very often do not visit their favourite sites for lack of time, or simply because they forget. The application developed for UKTV relieves people interested in knowing what’s on television from this mundane task. Using our unique technology we can automatically bring a personalised TV guide to each user, which will not only remind them of their favourite programmes but will also let them interact with the content even if they are not online".
Jane Mountain, Producer of the UKTV website, says: "With the vast array of options available to multi-channel TV viewers, we’re very happy to be able to provide a quick and convenient guide to the best programming available each day. Skinkers technology has allowed us to make an application that is quick and easy to use and allows us to provide engaging content on a daily basis."
